Lease Sale 233

A December agreement between the US and Mexico allows for the completion of Western Planning Area Sale 233. Three bids that were previously submitted for Sale 233 along the disputed boundary with Mexico were opened today. These bids will be added to Sale 233 in OWL and will not be treated as a separate sale. The results are as follows:

Western Gulf of Mexico Planning Area Lease Sale 233 was held in New Orleans on August 28, 2013. Sale 233, just completed, resulted in 61 bids, by 12 companies, on 53 tracts, for a total of $144,685,246. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $102,351,712, on approximately 0.3 million acres. The last western sale in 2012, Sale 229 resulted in 131 bids, by 13 companies, on 116 tracts, for a total of $157,683,267. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $133,767,074, on approximately 0.7 million acres.
