OWL Features
Themes
OWL is organized around themes which provide more flexibility in operating the OWL Database. Users can easily focus their efforts on a specific data type or theme. Data Screens, Reports, and Map contents have been reorganized around these themes:

OWL Navigator
This unique navigation system allows users to quickly search and compile data by theme. The OWL Navigator is readily accessible throughout the program and designed with a theme pick list that offers the eleven different methods for “driving” OWL.
Data Screens
Data Screens provide users faster access to information through the implementation of theme navigation and linked data grids. Designed with a theme summary, primary and secondary data grids with options to add and arrange data columns, Data Screens promptly present more data to the user than any other database. Production figures and graphs are also included at every theme level. A new undocking feature allows the displaying of several data grids and production graphs across multiple monitors for comparison and analysis.
Reports
There are over forty different OWL Reports divided into eleven topics or themes which allow users to amass data specific to their desired interest. Screen Reports are also available for a fast way of generating printable reports of the data screens. All Reports are designed to provide users with complete flexibility and ease of use in generating virtually any data set. The Report Console with its easy to use filters permits users to quickly create and customize a compiled data grid for export, printable report, and map display. Default settings provide certain data columns, sorting, and formatting for every report.
Many reports have been enhanced and new ones added such as “Idle Wells”. This report shows users which wells have potential liability for decommissioning under BOEM guidelines.
Maps
OWL’s much improved mapping system generates any map for the Gulf of Mexico faster and easier than ever before with more colorful and informative displays. The new Map Console makes it simple to create and customize a map using theme settings with its color scheme filters. Users also have greater flexibility in displaying the map contents from changing their colors and patterns to placement and font size for posted data. An expanded array of tools are now available to measure distance and area while annotating any map with lines, polygons, points, circles, quarter/quarter illustrations, and areas of interest. Text boxes can also be added separately or attached to any annotation on the map.
Data Exports
The enhanced OWL Export feature allows users to export data with ease from every aspect of OWL from Data Tables, Grids, Reports, and Maps to various file formats, including Windows® applications. GOM data export permits complete and effortless exporting of all Data Tables in the database. Selected data can be exported from grids on Data Screens, Reports, and Maps.
OWL Export from Maps has been designed to readily export data from the current map view or a user defined area of interest. The enhanced interface allows users to easily change the attributes of cultural metafiles and data files. Modifications can be made to file format, coordinate unit, name, image and text content, color, and text height before exporting the data. Users have the ability to create files in ASCII and shapefile formats for import into various seismic / geologic interpretation applications. Clipping to blocks and active only export options are also available.
